Provincial Science Testing Delayed

The Star Phoenix is reporting that:

The Ministry of Education has postponed the introduction of a provincewide assessment that will one day tell divisions, schools and teachers how well their students are doing in science.

This spring was to the be first year Saskatchewan’s grade 7 and 10 students completed so-called “assessment for learning” (AFL) questionnaires and tests to gauge their understanding of science.

Similar provincial testing has been in place for reading and math since 2005 and for writing since 2008.

Unfortunately, this postponement is being attributed to budget constraints.  It would be really interesting to know how the provincial schools are performing in science education—especially the life sciences.
